Coffee West of Okayama Station: ONSAYA and Hokancho

If you have time before your next train in Okayama, walk west towards Hokancho. ONSAYA’s main shop roasts coffee on site and offers a place to sit before taking a short look along the shopping street.

Come for coffee and something sweet

The current official page lists waffles, homemade cakes and drinks. Meal service is paused, and dishes such as Napolitan pasta are not available. Older lunch reviews are not the right basis for this visit.

There is a roaster on the first floor and a more leisurely seating space upstairs. The shop is currently entirely non-smoking. On a day with time to spare, it offers a different kind of pause from drinking a takeaway on the way to the platform.

Let the cup guide your choice of beans

The shop sells beans and brewing equipment as well as serving coffee. Its official page lists blends and single-origin beans, with samples available for bean purchases.

You do not need to begin with a particular origin. Tell the staff whether you add milk or prefer a lighter cup. If you enjoy what you drink, ask about beans and a grind that suit the equipment you use at home.

On a travel day, add the walk back and the time needed to reach your platform. A coffee stop and a shopping-street walk need separate room in the schedule.

Settle on your train before ordering if you want to keep walking afterwards. If a long journey lies ahead, use the time to sit instead. This is a small detour, and it works best when you let it stay one.
