Sushi in Kanazawa: seasonal fish, choosing a restaurant and ordering

A sushi meal in Kanazawa might be a stop before your train or the highlight of the day. The right restaurant depends on which you have in mind. Look around the station, Omicho Market or the tea districts, matching your meal to the day’s route.

By the plate, as a set or by reservation

For adjusting your budget as you eat, choose somewhere with prices by the plate. For a set amount from the start, consider a nigiri set. For an unhurried meal, look at a reserved course. Before a train, allow for both the queue and serving time. Not every station restaurant is conveyor-belt sushi.

A reservation enquiry you can adapt

“Do you have a table for two at 12:30 on [date]? We would like a sushi lunch with a food budget of [amount] per person. Which set or course is available, and are drinks separate?” Replace the details with your plans. If you have a train to catch, give its departure time and ask whether the meal can finish in time; do not assume a course can be rushed.

Ask how to confirm or cancel the booking before committing. The example is a way to ask, not a promise that every restaurant takes reservations in English.

Seasonal fish and the day’s catch

Winter yellowtail and kobako crab, spring firefly squid and sweet shrimp seen throughout the year: seasonal seafood is part of the pleasure of eating sushi here. Weather and deliveries still affect what is available during the season. Ask ‘What local fish do you have today?’ and choose from that day’s catch if your first choice is unavailable.

Before ordering omakase, ask the price, number of pieces and whether drinks cost extra. If you want a particular fish, ask whether it is available and whether there is an additional charge.

Discuss allergies before ordering

Tell the restaurant about ingredients you cannot eat when booking and ask whether it can accommodate them. Discuss stock, soy-sauce ingredients and cross-contact through shared tools or preparation spaces. For severe allergies, do not rely solely on a conversation on arrival; avoid ordering if the restaurant cannot confirm suitable arrangements.

Menu examples at Akame Sushi and Sushikoma

Restaurant format Suits Check first
Conveyor-belt sushi ordered by the plate Choosing around group size and appetite Price per plate, check-in and waiting time
Priced sets or nigiri selections Setting the budget in advance Serving time and extra charges for drinks or additions
A reserved course Making the meal a focus of the trip Total price, duration and cancellation terms

As one example, Akame Sushi near the station lists a weekday-only sushi lunch at ¥1,800 including tax, and Hyakumangoku no Sushi from ¥4,400 including tax. Options and budgets differ even within the same restaurant; check whether your date qualifies. Ask the restaurant directly about seats and availability.

Sushikoma in Yasue-cho requests advance reservations on its official website. The sushi association lists its lunchtime Hyakumangoku no Sushi ten-piece set at a reference price of ¥4,400–¥5,500 including tax, by reservation only. Give the restaurant your date, party size and preferred set, and confirm the current price before booking. These examples were checked against published information in September 2026; they are not a citywide price range.
