Dinner in Hakone Without a Ryokan Meal Plan: Plan the Restaurant and the Return

Before booking a room-only stay in Hakone, decide where you will eat and how you will get back. Restaurants do open at night, but that does not put one within walking distance of every hotel. Add any dinner-related taxi cost when comparing a room-only rate with dinner and breakfast included.

Look for a way back, not just a nearby station

The relationship between restaurants and accommodation differs across Yumoto, Miyanoshita, Gora, Sengokuhara and the lakeside. Do not assume a place you passed at lunchtime will serve dinner. Keep a couple of options based on opening days, dinner hours and last orders.

A hotel near a station may still be far from your restaurant. Its shuttle may cover check-in rather than evening trips. Choose the return bus, train or taxi alongside the outward journey.

An evening option in Miyanoshita: Funny’s

American DINER & BAR Funny’s lists a walk of about five minutes from Miyanoshita Station. Its official information gives Wednesday–Sunday, holidays and holiday eves as 5 pm–midnight, with food orders until 11:20 pm; Monday and Tuesday are listed as closing days. Burgers are listed from ¥1,650 and the roast-beef plate at ¥1,980.

It is an option when staying around Miyanoshita. From accommodation elsewhere, settle the return journey before reserving a table. The restaurant’s booking calendar is useful when a holiday falls on a usual closing day.

Choose included dinner when the evening belongs at your hotel

If you do not want to travel mountain roads at night, want to rest after a bath, or have children who sleep early, dinner at your accommodation can fit the day better. Compare meal plans at booking: adding dinner to a room-only reservation later is not automatic.

For a late arrival, establish the dinner start and acceptance time. Either eat before reaching the hotel or finish sightseeing in time for its meal. That avoids searching for a restaurant after check-in.

Do not rely on a taxi already waiting wherever you finish dinner. Read the last-bus and taxi guide, and save your accommodation’s name and address on your phone. A settled journey home leaves more time to enjoy the meal itself.
