Ikebukuro Halloween 2026: do you need a ticket to watch, take photos or cosplay?
You can visit without a ticket if you are not in costume and are only watching or taking casual souvenir photographs. But attending specifically to photograph or interact with cosplayers requires registration. At Ikebukuro Halloween, your purpose—not the size of your camera—determines the ticket you need.

Daytime dates and the separate night event
The daytime festival is scheduled for October 31 and November 1, 2026, from 10:00 to 18:00 around Ikebukuro. The official overview lists photography hours as 10:00–17:00, ending before the event itself.
Ikebukuro Halloween Night takes place at Sunshine City on October 30, 16:30–22:30. It is for ages 18 and over, with high-school students excluded. Treat it as a separate event with its own admission conditions, not simply an extension of daytime sightseeing.
Choose by what you intend to do
- Watch in everyday clothes: no ticket for viewing and casual souvenir photographs, although some areas are restricted to ticket holders.
- Come to photograph or interact with cosplayers: buy photographer registration. This applies to smartphones too.
- Attend in cosplay: buy cosplay registration, check in and change in the event’s designated changing room.
Read the participation rules rather than assuming a phone makes photography exempt. The ticket page also gives the registration time for each ticket type.
Arrive in ordinary clothes
For standard cosplay participation, arrive in everyday clothes, register, then change at the venue. Coming already dressed from home or a hotel is prohibited. The organizer specifies an exception for a Prince Hotel special accommodation plan; an ordinary hotel booking does not automatically qualify.
The official overview gives the main registration location as the fourth floor of Sunshine City’s World Import Mart Building. Elementary-school children using Kids Tickets have a different registration location. Pack costume pieces and props together, and keep the participation badge visible. The photographs here show the surrounding district and Sunshine City on earlier dates.

Ask before photographing—and before posting
Use designated photography areas and get the person’s consent, rather than following someone through the crowd with your camera. Ask separately before posting to social media. Agreement to a photograph is not blanket permission to publish it anywhere.
The event rules prohibit commercial and for-profit use of photographs and video. Personal travel memories are different from content made for advertising or sale. Avoid capturing unrelated passers-by or occupying a spot for a long session.
A spectator visit can be a short stop to enjoy the atmosphere rather than a tour of every photography area. Leave large travel luggage elsewhere; the Japan coin-locker guide can help with that part of the day.
As checked on October 12, the rules still describe the detailed event map as forthcoming. Open the current overview before leaving the station so you follow this year’s registration and photography areas, not an older map.
