Sending Luggage Between Hotels in Japan

Sending your suitcase to the next hotel makes transfers and sightseeing en route easier. Before arranging it, check whether your current hotel can dispatch it and the next one can receive it. Keep clothes and medication for the days before delivery in your hand luggage.

Ask the next hotel first

Tell the front desk your booking name and check-in date and ask whether it accepts deliveries. Unstaffed properties or holiday rentals without on-site staff may not. Note the property’s official name, phone number and reservation name rather than relying on the address alone.

What to provide when sending it

Use Yamato Transport’s price and delivery-date search for the origin and destination, then work back from the desired arrival date. If handing bags to a hotel, check its collection cutoff too. Use the confirmed collection time when deciding which day to send the suitcase.

  1. Give the next hotel your reservation name, stay date and expected luggage arrival date, and ask about advance acceptance.
  2. Ask your current hotel whether it can send the luggage and when collection closes.
  3. Write the property name, address, phone number, guest name and check-in date on the shipping form.
  4. Save the tracking number and confirm dispatch before moving on.

Compare the forwarding quote with your hotel itinerary

  • Measure the packed bag: note its three dimensions and weight; ask which carrier and service the hotel uses.
  • Use the actual route: obtain a quote for the sending and receiving locations, rather than treating a sample suitcase price as a nationwide rate.
  • Confirm the sending day: the hotel collection cutoff and the carrier’s delivery estimate are different checks. A quote alone does not confirm that the bag will reach your next stay in time.

For Yamato’s service conditions, see its TA-Q-BIN size and weight guidance. Confirm the final price and arrival arrangements with the hotel before handing over the bag.

What to keep out of the suitcase

Keep your passport, cash, cards, medication, phone and charger with you. Pack clothes and toiletries for the time apart from the suitcase: one night if the itinerary separates you for one night, or two days if delivery takes two days.

Fragile items have packing and compensation conditions. Declare the contents and check Yamato’s prohibited items.

If the bag does not arrive

Check tracking and contact both the carrier and receiving hotel. If your stay dates change, ask the carrier how to amend delivery rather than changing the destination yourself. Typhoons or heavy snow can halt collections, so sending luggage after transport has already stopped may not be possible.
