Luggage forwarding on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route: where to drop and collect
Luggage forwarding lets you cross the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route with a day bag while your suitcase travels around the mountains. The crucial detail is where you leave it: you cannot drop it at Tateyama Station or Ogizawa.

The published 2026 service runs April 15–November 8. It connects Dentetsu-Toyama Station, the collection point outside Shinano-Omachi Station and selected hotels. No advance reservation is required. Hotel handling is for guests staying at participating properties, not anyone passing the reception desk.
Match your morning drop-off with your afternoon collection
Choose both ends before booking the rest of your journey. The baggage desk’s hours are not the same as train operating hours or hotel check-in times.
| Location | Morning drop-off | Collection |
|---|---|---|
| Dentetsu-Toyama Station | Drop-off: 05:00–10:00 | Collection: 15:30–18:00 |
| Outside Shinano-Omachi Station | Drop-off: 07:40–10:30 | Collection: 15:00–17:45 |
| Participating hotels | Drop-off: By 08:30 | Collection: From 16:30 |
An early Alpine Route departure only works if you can reach the luggage desk first. Check the location against the hotel where you will spend the previous night, rather than adding baggage drop-off to the plan at the last minute.
Cross-route forwarding costs ¥4,000 per item
Sending a bag between Dentetsu-Toyama or a participating Tateyama foothills hotel and Shinano-Omachi or a participating Omachi Onsen hotel costs ¥4,000 per item, including tax. Separate ¥2,000 services operate between Dentetsu-Toyama and participating hotels on the Toyama side, and between Shinano-Omachi and participating Omachi Onsen hotels.
Payment is cash only. Consult the official forwarding page for the participating properties and collection points. A hotel being on your mountain itinerary does not automatically mean it handles this service.

Do not leave your bag in Omachi and take the wrong onward bus
Travelling from Toyama towards Nagano, you reach Ogizawa before continuing by bus. If your suitcase is waiting outside Shinano-Omachi Station, plan to go there to collect it. A direct bus towards Nagano does not provide the ordinary Shinano-Omachi collection stop.
The official page gives separate instructions for travellers continuing directly towards Nagano. Read those arrangements before using them rather than assuming your suitcase follows your bus. For the straightforward Omachi collection plan, allow for the desk closing at 17:45.
In the opposite direction, collection at Dentetsu-Toyama begins at 15:30. Finishing the mountain crossing early does not move that collection time forward. Leave enough space before your next train to pick up the bag without rushing.
What to keep with you
The service does not accept bags at Tateyama Station, Ogizawa, Nagano Station or Unazuki Onsen. Hotel Tateyama and Midagahara Hotel are also excluded. Cash, valuables and fragile items should not go into the forwarded bag.
Keep your passport, medication, warm layers and rain gear in your day bag. Your suitcase travels by road, and weather or road conditions can delay it; avoid putting an inflexible booking immediately after your expected collection time.
If you are returning to the same base rather than crossing the route, station lockers or luggage storage may make more sense than sending a bag to the other side of the mountains.
