Hakone Luggage Delivery: The Noon Deadline That Changes Your Day
Arrive in Hakone-Yumoto in the morning and you can send your suitcase to your hotel before going sightseeing. The Hakone Carry Service accepts station-to-hotel bags from 8:30am until noon; hotel collection is from 3pm.
If you arrive in the afternoon, build the day around another luggage option. Booking online does not remove the requirement to hand over the bag at the station before noon.
Sending a bag from the station
- Find your hotel on the partner list. Delivery is not available to every property in Hakone.
- At Hakone-Yumoto Station, go to the counter before leaving to sightsee. Give the hotel name and hand over your luggage.
- Keep your wallet, medication, passport, charging equipment and anything else you need that day in a small bag.
- Collect your luggage at the hotel after 3pm. If you plan to bathe before it arrives, carry what you will need for that, too.
After online payment, keep the shipping confirmation
The operator’s instructions say to use the email address and shipping reservation number from the payment email to display your barcode. Present it at the Online Reservation reception window at Hakone-Yumoto Station and hand over the actual bag before noon. Keep those details accessible on your phone before packing it away; the online booking does not collect your suitcase for you.
Same-day online applications close at 11:30am. Completing the form ahead of time is useful, but 11:30am is the online deadline; noon is the physical drop-off deadline. If your arrival is tight, getting to the station matters more than filling in the form.
Prices depend on size and weight
Charges are per item, one way. Both weight and the combined length, width and height count—not just the longest side.

Two standard suitcases cost ¥3,000 one way, or ¥6,000 if you send both back as well. Compare that expense with the time needed to visit your hotel first.
Valuables, precision equipment, power banks and breakables cannot be sent. Restrictions also apply to umbrellas, strollers and bundled items. Separate laptops and spare batteries before leaving rather than discovering them inside the suitcase at the counter.
The return trip starts at the hotel by 10am
For hotel-to-station delivery, leave your bags at reception by 10am and collect them at the station between 1:30pm and 6:30pm. Arrange the return service at the hotel, not online.
This does not work for a train leaving Hakone-Yumoto around noon. In that case, return directly from the hotel in the morning or make another arrangement for collecting your luggage. Leave time after collection to buy tickets or board your Romancecar.
Arriving after noon
Consider station lockers, storage at your hotel or going straight there with your bags. A locker makes most sense if you will return to the same station. Continuing through to Lake Ashi and leaving by another route means an extra trip back to collect it.
The Carry Service is different from ordinary courier delivery between a Tokyo hotel and Hakone. For that, check the delivery date for hotel-to-hotel luggage shipping and keep your arrival-day essentials with you.
Winter road conditions, typhoons and other disruptions can stop the service. Check its operating notice and partner list before booking so your bags do not become the part of the day with no plan.
